The Melbourne Vipers are the senior representative team for Victoria and compete nationally in the Mahindra Australian Volleyball League. The Vipers were established in 2019 after two former clubs came together under banner after numerous years competing in the National League. The Vipers represent some of the best Victorian volleyball talent including players from premier metro and regional clubs and those on their way to national team success in the Developing Volleyroos programs. Commericially minded and with the goal to increase exposure, interest and participation of the sport of volleyball, the Vipers lead the league in audience attendance and fan engagement and have their sights set on a third straight finals appearance in 2025.
Coach selections are currently in process and expect to be announced on Monday 19 May ahead of the first trial.
Melbourne Vipers are the highest level of representative team in Victoria and compete at an elite, national level. The club’s focus is on performance and commercial outcomes and training environments will reflect performance expectations.
Athletes will be required to maintain technical training, fitness and healthy regimes outside of official training sessions, with guidance and oversight provided by the coaching staff as well as be available for community and marketing/media engagements where required.
Trials will comprise two Open Trials for any athlete interested in being considered to join the squad, followed by an invite only trial to select the final teams.
Melbourne Vipers seek to select the best available Victorian players to represent the Vipers in the AVSL. Preference will be given to players that actively training and playing at a suitable level, such as the Victorian Volleyball Premier League and above. Squad selections will be merit based and must be ratified by an independent group of selectors comprised of: 1 x Volleyball Victoria Board Member, VV CEO, Pathways Coach Director panel, 1 x independent coach (Level 3+ and Nationally recognised) to ensure non-bias and eligibility of players.
A squad of 15+ players will be selected from the trialling athletes, with 5 additional places reserved for Victorian athletes at the AVA, training in the NPP or Volleyroos programs based interstate or overseas in collegiate or professional contracts, where they are interested in competing with Vipers this season.

ELIGIBILITY & CLUB FEES
- Any player wanting to be a member of the Vipers must play for a club participating in the Victorian Volleyball League AND play enough matches to qualify for finals (50% of regular season games). Athletes at the AVA or active Volleyroos, where level of play and training is of a high standard, do not need to meet this criteria.
- All players must have a 2025 Full VV Membership
- Fees have not yet been set for the season and will depend on sponsorships attained. At maximum, squad/training levy will be $300, Player Levy will be $450.
- Maximum players allowed on the O2 form is 20 per team, maximum players allowed per round is 10 per team + 5 personnel
TRAINING
The training schedule is currently being finalised.
Training during VVL season will be maximum 1 x per week.
At the conclusion of VVL, training will be 2-3 x per week. Times and locations TBC by coaches.
2025 AVSL SCHEDULE
Our Men’s and Women’s Vipers teams will share the same home and away schedule.
The schedule is still being finalised by Volleyball Australia, however the Vipers schedule is confirmed to have:
3 x home rounds
2 x away rounds
AVSL will run from 20 September to the first weekend November (this is including finals).

INTERNATIONAL TRANSFERS
Any athlete that requires an ITC, meaning they were registered to play volleyball in another country before they were registered to play volleyball in Australia, fees are responsbility of athlete.
