Volleyball Victoria Confirms Board Following 2026 Annual General Meeting

Volleyball Victoria has confirmed the election of its Board of Directors following the organisation's Annual General Meeting (AGM), held on Sunday, 17 May 2026 at the State Volleyball Centre.
Four vacancies were declared on the Volleyball Victoria Board following the resignation of former director Dr Shweta Sharma and the expiry of three director terms. In accordance with the Volleyball Victoria Constitution, four nominations were received and all four candidates were elected by the membership.
The following directors were elected to the Board:
- Matt Lanham – Re-elected for a second term
- Catherine Gordon – Re-elected for a second term
- Gabriele Famous – Re-elected for a second term
- Liza Gelt
New Volleyball Victoria Director, Liza Gelt brings significant experience in governance, strategy, stakeholder engagement and organisational leadership. Her background spans consulting, public policy and community-focused organisations, with expertise in supporting boards and executives to navigate complex challenges, strengthen governance practices and deliver long-term strategic outcomes.
They join the continuing members of the Board:
- Peter Hertan – Appointed Director
- Lauren Dinning – Appointed Director
- Michael Ciavarella – Appointed Director
Following the AGM, the newly constituted Board met to determine its officer positions for the coming 12 months. The Board elected:
- Paul Freckleton – President
- Damien Whitburn – Vice President
In addition, Peter Hertan was reappointed as Finance Director, continuing in the role he has held since joining the Board.
The Board will continue to provide strategic leadership and governance oversight as Volleyball Victoria delivers on its priorities of participation growth, pathway development, member engagement, facility advocacy and organisational sustainability.
