HONOUR THE PAST – INFORM THE PRESENT – INSPIRE THE FUTURE

Background

Volleyball Victoria has launched a "history" project aimed at telling the "story" of Volleyball in Victoria.  The 2 year “project" is an important step in collating and digitising the State’s Volleyball history, including celebrating and recording important moments, organisation's and people across our Victorian indoor and beach volleyball communities. 

These first stages will focus on key foundational elements on which our sport was established in Victoria.  It will seek to link, collaborate, and leverage the historical context and knowledge of affiliates, community contributors to construct accurate and informative content for timelines, people and events.

In summary, the project stages will include;

Stage 1 - Victorian Volleyball History

  • Create a short chronological history of “Volleyball in Victoria" 

Stage 2 – Affiliate (Club/Association) History

  • Collate (if not already compiled) summary information and images to create a snapshot of club and affiliate history for Volleyball in Victoria. Content may include - Timelines & History, People, Achievements, Images/articles. 

Stage 3 – Digitisation of Awards, Recognition and Honour boards.

  • Update, collate and digitalise of “high level” VV past and existing awards, recognition and honour rolls.

Where to next?

A working group has been established to drive the project framework and processes. NOW, we need the community to proactively encourage a collaborative approach to the information gathering. An email has been sent to all existing affiliates to assist them to establish an accurate chronological and historic backdrop for significant events, people, activities and groups.

Affiliates are encouraged to use local resources, actively delegate responsibility, or engage strategically, with relevant members of their community to construction timelines and commentary for various moments in history.
